❔Why OVRMaps are so important

We believe that AR is the future of human-computer interfaces, the main channel we’ll use to interact with information and experiences, our smartphone time will be replaced by an enhanced version of reality experienced through smart glasses.

This future relies on pervasive and contextualized AR and that is only possible thanks to the availability of spatial data, organizations who control those data will be the gatekeepers of the future augmented version of the world.

That’s why we also refer to OVRMaps as to ‘The Portal’ to the AR metaverse, the data on the spatial structure of locations contained in the OVRMaps are the enabler of the AR experiences that will populate our future.

Web2 incumbents such as Google, Microsoft and Niantic are already investing in building such a 3D data layer to create the future of AR. We believe that such a fundamental component of our future should be built on Web3, that’s why we launched our ambitious Map the World campaign to create the largest crowdsourced 3D Map of relevant locations in the world.
